Foundations

When it comes to exploring faith, it’s natural to have questions. Unfortunately, church is sometimes the last place you want to bring those questions. We’d like to change that.
You’re invited to join the conversation in Foundations. We provide a safe place for people just like you to explore faith through Foundations. This eight-week group experience is facilitated by leaders who have been where you are, wrestled with their own faith questions, and understand the value of creating a safe, judgment-free environment for you to explore faith. We invite new believers, believers who need a refresh or unbelievers.

He Gets Us

Jesus understands our lives because he was human too. He faced the same hardships and personal struggles that we encounter on a daily basis. He felt our deepest sadness and experienced our darkest solitude. Above all, Jesus gets us.
In Jesus’ time, communities were deeply divided by bitter differences in religious beliefs, political positions, income inequality, legal status, and ethnic differences. But where was Jesus in all of this? Did he align with the religious elites? Or did he start an uprising to overthrow them? Neither of the above.
Instead, he went from town to town, offering hope, new life, and modeling a different way to live and to change the world. Instead of pursuing power, money, or religious authority, he shared a loving and sacrificially generous way of living–He championed a better way. But how can we understand the Jesus of the Bible today?
Whether you’re exploring faith for the first time, seeking answers to life’s difficult questions, or looking for a deeper
relationship with Jesus, He Gets Us will be your guide every step of the way.

Finding Peace

In times of crisis and confusion, Dr. Charles Stanley has learned the one phrase that can carry him through: “God, You are in control.” The peace he has experienced in life stems from that foundational belief. In Finding Peace, Dr. Stanley shares with readers how they, too, can experience an unshakeable peace which “passes all understanding.”
Filled with encouragement to lift the soul, Finding Peace offers insight on what causes us to live without God’s peace in our lives, and how we can reverse course and open our hearts to receive it. Also, Stanley gives his perspective on the things that hinder peace-including the “Four Great Hallmarks of God’s Peace” and “Five Essential Beliefs for a Peaceful Heart”-to put the important message of this book into concrete terms. Addressing regret, anxiety, and fear, Dr. Stanley extends hope for overcoming the obstacles that block peace with the Lord. Finally, he gives direction on learning to live a life of contentment.

When We Pray

If you want to know the temperature of your spiritual life, look at the thermostat setting on your prayer life. Prayer is the most misunderstood and neglected aspect of the Christian life. It has been estimated that most Christians pray three to five minutes a day. Compare that to the time many spend complaining, and you’ll gain insight into the spiritual and emotional condition of our day. Yet God has constructed the world in such a way that there is much He won’t do in a Christian’s life apart from prayer.
Prayer, when combined with faith, can accomplish great things as noted in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “if my people, who are called
by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

Life Lessons From Hebrews

The Jewish believers were torn between their new faith in Jesus and their old ways rooted in Old Testament routines and rituals. They were tempted to go back to their familiar life that seemed “good enough.” But the author of Hebrews shows that when Jesus came, “the best got better.”
The unknown author of Hebrews skillfully compares these believers’ old ways and their new faith, arguing that Christ is
better in every way. He focuses on Jesus, His effective ministry, and His ultimate sacrifice, showing us that absolutely nothing compares to our Incomparable Christ.
As you read, study, journal, and discuss the book of Hebrews, watch for these key themes that Max will unpack throughout the book:
- Jesus Christ brought about a whole new way of connecting with and following God.
- Jesus is our compassionate high priest.
- Faith is the connector between this life and the next.

Life Lessons From Thessalonians

The church in Thessalonica was a study in contrast. They had been a quiet and holy people. But after a while, they had
become restless and impatient. They needed direction on how to live. So Paul wrote the young church two letters. The first commended the believers for their faith and encouraged them to continue living according to the gospel principles he had taught. The second letter was filled with helpful hints that corrected their wrong beliefs, assumptions, and behaviors.
Whether we are living a quiet and holy life or one that leaves us restless and impatient, Paul’s letters encourage us. They challenge us to remain faithful in a temporary world. As you read, study, journal, and discuss the books of 1 and 2 Thessalonians, watch for these key themes that Max Lucado will unpack throughout the book:
- We should live in preparation for Christ’s return.
- God wants holy and pure worship.
- The time of Christ’s return will be unpredictable.
- How we live our everyday lives, matters.
