JOIN US FOR OUR HOLY WEEK CHALLENGE

In the Christian Church, Holy Week is the week between Palm Sunday and Easter. During Holy Week, Christians recall the events leading up to Jesus’ death by crucifixion and his Resurrection. The week includes five days of special significance, beginning with Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday, which commemorates Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

HOLY MONDAY

Theme: Authority

Challenge: Read Matthew 21:1-23 and answer this: Who Is Jesus To You? Who Do You Say Jesus Is?

On Holy Monday, Jesus cursed the fig tree, cleansed the temple, and responded to questioning of his authority (Matthew 21:1-23). Some observe the anointing of Jesus at Bethany (John 12:1–11), an event that in the Gospel of John occurred before Palm Sunday as in John 12:12–19.

HOLY TUESDAY

Theme: Invitation
Challenge: Invite at least 5 people to join you on Easter Weekend at Eagles Nest.

On Holy Tuesday, some observe Christ’s predictions of his own death, as described in John 12:20–36 and John 13:21–38.

HOLY/SPY WEDNESDAY

Theme: Forgiveness
Challenge: Ask for Forgiveness from someone you have wronged OR forgive someone that has wronged you.

Holy Wednesday or Spy Wednesday, remembers how Judas arranged the betrayal of Jesus with the chief priests since he was a spy among the disciples of Jesus.

MAUNDY THURSDAY

Theme: Outreach
Challenge: Be a blessing to someone in need or in your community.

Maundy Thursday commemorates Christ’s “new commandment” that his disciples love one another as He has loved them (John 13:34). It also marks the Last Supper that Jesus shared with His disciples, the prediction of His death, His betrayal by Judas Iscariot, and His arrest at the Garden of Gethsemane. In some traditions Maundy Thursday services also include an act of foot washing, commemorating how Jesus washed His disciples’ feet as an act of service preceding His arrest.

GOOD FRIDAY

Theme: Remembrance
Challenge: Fast A Meal & Attend Virtual Good Friday Communion

Good Friday remembers Jesus’ trial before Pontius Pilate, His death sentence, torture, crucifixion, death, and burial.
